Description
A stand of trees, taken on a quiet dead road, by the town of Gould Colorado, on a gray winter day. This day was made more exciting by an incident, that occurred right after taking this photo. There was 6" of fresh snow on the ground that morning, and to capture this shot, I was set up on an cattle guard. Once I was done, I gathered up my equipment, turning around to walk the 20' between me and the car, in turning around, One leg slipped thru the cattle guard, and I was stuck, in a lot of pain, I thought I had broken my leg, Once the pain died down a bit, I quickly accessed my situation. Not good, I'm in the middle of no where, on a rarely traveled dead end road, my cell phone is in the car, 20' away,(not that I would have service) and I think my leg is broken, and I'm stuck, in between the rails of the cattle guard, and I mean, my leg is stuck, clear up to my thigh, and I do mean stuck, at first I couldn't move at all. So using a thick branch that I was able to grab, put it between the bars to use for leverage I slowly was able to wiggle a little bit, and worked my way into a position where maybe I could pull my leg back thru.. I finally came to the conclusion, I could stay stuck, and slowly freeze to death, as no one was going to find me, or would be able to hear me. Or, I pull my leg back up thru the cattle guard. that's what I ended up doing, slowly, and very painfully I worked to back thru the bars. After about an hour, I was free! Hobbled back to my car, figured out, I don't think it's broke like I first thought, but my knee was definitely messed up, but I could drive. Turned out the knee was severely bruised and sprained. there a lesson in this story somewhere for all of us.

Love the contemporary feel of this image, Steven...and glad that you survived to tell the story!

A beautiful stand of winter trees, Steven, and quite a story. The lesson learned would probably be NOT to go off anywhere remote especially, alone. So glad you survived the ordeal without too much damage and to tell the tale.

Wonderful photograph! It looks well worth what you went through to get it; however, I wouldn't recommend doing it again! I lesson in know your surroundings and be sure you are on solid ground! :) l/f/p
